Fall or Fly 03:29
You know that we all take a dive some of the time Slip, stumble & fall & eat some humble pie We can’t be winning all the blue ribbons But we can keep learning from all of our living You won’t be sinking if you keep swimming And staying alive Whether I fall or whether I fly Whether I’m sprawled out or touching the sky I can stand tall knowing I’ve tried Whether I fall or whether I fly You know that it takes lots of mistakes to get it just right Fumble the football, bungle the phone call Miss your big flight You gonna collect some sweet imperfections And you’re gonna get some epic rejections But with some reflection, they’ll give you direction And a purpose in life Whether I fall or whether I fly Whether I’m sprawled out or touching the sky I can stand tall knowing I’ve tried Whether I fall or whether I fly “Hey Ash, have I told you about the time I played violin in the 5th grade talent show? I had just started learning to play, it sounded terrible, and the audience giggled and giggled, but I didn’t care, at least I tried!” “Yeah? Well let me tell you about the time I got stuck hanging from a fence by my shorts, just as the final bell rang at the middle school across the street. It was so embarrassing! I was hopping the fence because I forgot my house key. Tell you what: I never forgot my keys again!” You know you’re gonna collect some sweet imperfections And you’re gonna get some epic rejections But with some reflection, they’ll give you direction And a purpose in life Whether I fall or whether I fly Whether I’m sprawled out or touching the sky I can stand tall knowing I’ve tried Whether I fall or whether I fly Whether I fall or whether I fly Whether I fall or whether I fly

My dog loves your dog and your dog loves my dog My dog loves your dog and your dog loves my dog… All them dogs, all them dogs Talking about a black dog, talking about a white dog Talking about a shaggy dog, talking about a fancy dog All them dogs, all them dogs All them dogs, all them dogs And then a-why can’t we sit under the apple tree? Why can’t we sit under the apple tree? My dog loves your dog and your dog loves my dog My dog loves your dog and your dog loves my dog… My little doggy was playing one day Down in the meadow with a bundle of hay Your little doggy it came along Said, “Let’s get together and eat this bone!” All them dogs, all them dogs All them dogs, all them dogs And then a-why can’t we sit under the apple tree? Why can’t we sit under the apple tree? You won’t walk with me You won’t talk with me Why don’t you hold my hand So we can understand Now can’t you see That you and me Are gonna be happy Sit under the apple tree My dog loves your dog and your dog loves my dog My dog loves your dog and your dog loves my dog… My little dog jumped out of his pen Said let’s introduce our human friends Your little dog said prove me wrong I thought people didn’t know how to get along All them dogs, all them dogs All them dogs, all them dogs But why can’t we sit under the apple tree? Why can’t we sit under the apple tree? You won’t walk with me You won’t talk with me Why don’t you hold my hand So we can understand Now can’t you see That you and me Are gonna be happy Sit under the apple tree Can’t you see That you and me Are gonna be happy Sit under the apple tree

Well you don't really know the good times If you ain't been down and out And if you never felt the rhythm and blues You can't twist and shout White wingtips and penny loafers Never beat the blue suede shoes And there ain't no rock'n'roll without the blues No there ain't no Rolling Stones Without Muddy Waters And there ain't no Janis Joplin Without all that Bessie Smith had taught her Without Big Boy Crudup and Big Mama Thornton Elvis couldn't be the King And without those crooning bluesmen You wouldn't hear us white boys sing… Mix up your country & western with R&B And then spread the gospel news Lawd there ain't no rock'n'roll without the blues Yeah it took Chuck Berry's hot guitar To get the Beach Boys and Beatles simmering And without Little Richard's style and sass Bob Dylan would still be Robert Zimmerman Sister Rosetta & Etta James Helped light the burning fuse And there ain't no rock'n'roll without the blues Well it takes a little honky tonk To get us the country moving But it takes a lot of juke joint To get the whole dang planet grooving There's so many strands and so many bands Thank goodness we don't have to choose And there ain't no rock'n'roll without the blues No there ain't no American music Without Black American music And there ain't no rock'n'roll without the blues No there ain't no rock'n'roll without the blues

about

Acclaimed family jazz performer Jazzy Ash and folksinger/puppeteer Red Yarn team up to release a lively new collaborative EP 'Sing Together,' out October 7, 2022. United by an appreciation of traditional American music, Jazzy Ash and Red Yarn stir their individual styles into a unique musical gumbo. Their new collaborative songs blend jazz, folk, soul, country and early rock’n’roll into a playful, varied sound. Their friendship and the fun they have singing together are infectious and listeners are sure to want to join in and sing along.

Opening the collection is “Sing Together,” a folky singalong about the beautiful harmonies we make when we all bring our unique voices to the table, featuring woodland critters of all sorts! “Fall or Fly” is a bluesy rock tune about picking yourself up and learning from mistakes. The pair revisit “Your Dog Loves My Dog,” a Civil Rights-era singalong that explores the question, if dogs can get along no matter what they look like, why can't we humans? “Shoo Turkey” is a silly traditional African American folk song brought to new life by the duo’s genuine, infectious chemistry.  On “Gimme My Bag,” when Jazzy Ash stands up to a playground bully, her buddy Red Yarn is right there to back her up of course! Closing out the party is “Ain't No Rock’n’Roll,” a spirited anthem that acknowledges and introduces all the real-life African American musical pioneers who influenced rock'n'roll and, consequently, the future of popular music.
